4/28/2017

3rd trimester 8th graders tried something new this year with a twist on the usual self-portrait.  They traced their silhouette and filled it with words and drawings that represented their personalities. Color was added very carefully in layers with colored pencils.

Ceramic device holders proved to be a fun, and very functional, project for first trimester students. Beginning with a sketch and the dimensions of their device (iphone, tablet, kindle, etc.), students sculpted their design out of clay and then glazed their piece.

Click through the slideshow to see the 8th grade alter ego collages. After brainstorming qualities that their "other self" would have, students got their picture taken and combined it with magazine images. Can you guess what characteristics they are trying to portray?

8th grade students experimented with gel medium transfers on top of collage. We added a tissue paper layer first to give texture, followed by a layer of paint, and finally an image from the website New Old Stock, which has vintage photographs free of any known copyright. Click on the image to see it larger.
